| Comments: | The music was part of Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance March, Number 1" . This theme had words added by Benson as an intended work for the Coronation of King Edward VII, but due to illness the coronation was postponed and the work was published separately, first sung by Clara Butt in June 1902. The original work had many more verses than are performed today. It has become an essential part of the BBC's "Last Night of the Proms" |
