Comments:A manuscript for this piece exists in the British Museum in the key of D - appropriate to 3 violins is titled "3 parts upon a Ground play'd 2 notes higher for Flutes". However a recent discovery of a fragment of one of the parts in Purcell's own handwriting in the key of F suggests this piece was originally written for "flutes". ie recorders.
