| Comments: | First performed at the Norwich Festival, 30 October 1866. Sullivan had been commissioned to provide a work for the Norwich Festival. He composed this overture during the first ten days of October 1866, in memory of his father who had died suddenly on 23 September. The work was conducted at the Festival by Julius Benedict.
