Arranged for vocal, simulated zurna and percussion. Unicode fonts required for proper viewing of lyrics (as this file).

The song, which survives from the 17th century, is a unique example of heroic music. Though the lyrics aren't balladish (telling a story), they get their initial point from the loss of Estergon (Esztergom) to Austrians, in 1683, the year of the dramatical defeat in front of Vienna.

For actual intonation, the following pitch bendings should have been done - (Although they are ignored, the piece is still appropriate for playback.)

Bb +1580
F# -1433

A tempered NWC file will be available if equested.
Improvements in Zurna workaround:A bagpipe, sounding an octave higher and a muted trumpet, sounding a 12th higher added. Please let me know your comments.

The lyrics in literary form (not available in the file):

Estergon kal'asý (bre dilber aman) subaþý durak
Kemirir gönlümü (bre dilber aman) bir sinsi firâk
Gönül yâr peþinde (bre dilber aman) yâr ondan ýrak

Akma Tuna akma (bre þâhin aman) ben bir dertliyim
Yâr peþinde (aman da gezer) koþar (yandým) kara bahtlýyým
