| Comments: | "Vectis" is the name the Romans gave to the Isle of Wight, off the South coast of England, where I retired to in 1986. "Newtown Randy", the name I gave to the Scherzo,is the annual fair held at the mediaeval capital of the Island, once a bustling seaport but now a mere hamlet of about 20 houses. The slow movement entitled "The Smugglers' March" commemorates one of the main Island industries 200 years ago----smuggling alcoholic liquor across from France. |
