Full name of work:Symphony No. 1: I. Allegro Opus 19
Composer:Schulze, Arthur W. (1937-), USA
Music category:classical 20th C
Instruments:classical orchestra
Name of file creator:Arthur W. Schulze
e-mail address:schulze "at" byelectric "dot" com
Running time:00:06:24
Comments:The first movement (in sonata form) has a certain restlessness due to the 7/8 time signature of the main theme.
It surrenders to the second theme in 3/4 time, and continues in this rhythm throughout the development. Signatures 7/8 and 3/4 are restored in the recapitulation.
The second movement reflects, in my mind, dreary raindrops slowly dripping on the windowpane on a gray and melancholy day. The third movement is a simple and happy minuet. The fourth movement is a fugal sonata. One can think of the theme as singing "Hosanna in Excelsis".
