NOTEWORTHY COMPOSER README FILE This Command Summary for NoteWorthy Composer was originally written and formatted by Barry Graham for a course in computer music. The original was written for NWC Version 1.30, and has been updated by Mr. Graham to be applicable to Version 1.5x. It has been subsequently updated for version 1.70 (inc Service Packs 1 & 2) by Richard Woodroffe, with assistance by Fred Nachbaur and Andrew Purdam. An upgrade to NoteWorthy Composer Version 2.75 was completed in September 2021 by Richard Woodroffe. The original was in Publisher (.pub) format. Additional versions in PDF (Adobe) and PostScript formats are also provided and are suggested as the ones to download, as they have all the necessary font information included, as well as avoiding any problems created by different printer configurations. Each version contains the following sections archived into the appropriate zip file: NWCCSfacia - Cover page and contents (5 pages) NWCCSs1 - Introduction (15 pages) NWCCSs2 - Control and File Menus (20 pages) NWCCSs3 - Edit and View Menus (20 pages) NWCCSs4 - Staff and Insert Menus (38 pages) NWCCSs5 - Notes and Tools Menus (27 pages) NWCCSs6 - Window and Help Menus and Index (20 pages) NWCCSs7 - Exercises (50 pages) NWCCSs8 - How Do I? - Examples (5 pages) Formats: 1: Microsoft Publisher (NWCCS*_275pub.zip) This format requires the Microsoft Publisher program. It is the most compact version; being the original, it is inevitable that the PS and PDF conversions end up with progressively larger file sizes. Please note that the format is in A4 size; if you wish to change to letter- or legal-size paper, you may have to let Publisher repaginate and adjust imbedded objects as required. For this format, you will need to have the NWCV15.TTF NoteWorthy font (and perhaps other fonts like BoxMarks) installed to see the embedded examples properly. 2: PostScript (NWCCS*_275ps.zip) This format is particularly useful if you have a PostScript printer. You can print directly to your printer using the DOS command: COPY /B [path\filename.ps] LPT1 {or whatever port your printer is on} If running from Windows, you will have to exit to the DOS prompt to do this, or run from a "DOS box." You can also view PS files on-screen using Ghostscript/GSview. This GPL (General Public License, i.e. we all, collectively, "own" it, and is therefore available at no charge) program is highly recommended for working with PS files. Included in the NWCCS*_ps.zip archive file is a small text file A4_2_LTR.TXT which describes how to modify the .PS files to print in letter format. 3: Portable Data Format (Adobe et al.) (NWCCS*_275Pdf.zip) This format is particularly convenient if you primarily wish to view the Command Reference on-screen using the (free) Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can even open the Adobe Reader (or GSview) and size it to fill part of the screen, with NoteWorthy Composer in another window somewhere else on the screen. (A horizontal tiling arrangement seems to work the best for this.) This gives you a handy on-screen tutorial in addition to the excellent native Help system in NoteWorthy Composer. ========================================================================== NoteWorthy Composer is a trade mark of: NoteWorthy Software, Inc.
