Joplin

The American composer Scott Joplin helped develop the syncopation and rhythmic diversity characteristic of the musical genre known as ragtime. He was posthumously awarded the 1976 Pulitzer Prize in music. Scott Joplin's "Original Rag" and "Maple Leaf Rag" were the first ragtime piano pieces to appear in sheet music form.
