A composition that was born from a friend's need to conduct and my pleasure in composing.
The ensemble is made up of friends we know (me on the alto clarinet), but it surprisingly (due to my transcendential skills as an orchestrator, heh...) sound well together. So far there was one reharsal and it seems to be the last, so here goes another unperformed masterpiece.
But seriously, the piece is really dear to me, and I feel it very much an emotinal state of mine that is transcribed into notes.
The title comes from th contrast between the determinis, suggested by the myth of
Sisyphus and the absolute existential freedom suggested by Sartre's philosophy. The music can be the sound of the two concepts coliding.
You won't find too much Indian music here, but there is in fact a part which is played very strictly diatonically in Raag Yaman which first desolves into chromatic and whole tone clusters and in the second time into an almost impossible-to-play bars 40-60. I'd appreciate comments - technical or general...
