This version came from Edinburgh, U.K. library (from Teddy Bears - buy a bear - www.wholepop.com/features/teddy/buybear.html "What can you say about a song that's been recorded by Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney...and Jerry Garcia? How about one with music and words written twenty-three years apart? In 1907, John W. Bratton wrote an instrumental ragtime piece, one of a number meant to capitalize on the teddy bear craze; in 1930, lyricist Jimmy Kennedy added words and an all-time kids' classic was born.
(from Wendy's Teddy Bear Page - www3.50megs.com/wendy/teddybear.html "After freeing a bear cub during a hunting trip, President Theodore Roosevelt was drawn in a cartoon showing "Teddy" and the bear. This image caught the imagination of the country and in November 1902 the teddy bear was born. Beloved the world over, the teddy bear has had many incarnations and been fashioned from a number of fabrics." (piano solo/vocal version)
Lyrics

THE TEDDY BEARS PICNIC
1.
If you go down to the woods to-day
You're sure of a big surprise.
If you go down in the woods to-day
You'd better go in disguise;
For ev'ry Bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
To-day's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic.
2.
Ev'ry TeddyBear who's been good
Is sure of a treat to-day.
There's lots of marvellous things to eat
And wonderful games to play.
Beneath the trees where nobody sees
They'll hide and seek as long as they please,
'Cos that's the way the Teddy Bears have their picnic.
TRIO
Picnic time for Teddy Bears,
The little Teddy Bears are having a lovely
time to-day.
Watch them catch them unawares
And see them picnic on their holiday.
See them gaily gadabout,
They love to play and shout;
They never have any cares
At six o'clock their Mummies and Daddies
Will take them home to bed,
Because they're tired little Teddy Bears.
3.
If you go down in the woods to-day
You'd better not go alone
It's lovely down in the woods to-day
But safer to stay at home.
For ev'ry Bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
To-day's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic.
